january inked on paper || the perfect bookworm life would be one where all we did was eat books and sleep. WITH CERTAIN CHOCOLATE-FLAVORED OVERLOADS because chocolate is important for survival DARN YOU. (welcome to my world)

i shall forever begrudge the simple fact that we don’t currently live in a world ruled by chocolate.

because then we wouldn’t forever be insearch of incredible stuff since it’d technically be handed out on a silver chocolate-made platter. LIFE WOULD BE PERFECT.

(except maybe for the time when we’d wish said universe would have been better off ruled by me instead, BUT SHH. we’re talking about chocolate currently)

january was a slightly ridiculous month wherein the world didn’t allow me to conquer it and the dragons in my backyard decided to burn it down as revenge.

except they’re still smol creatures and we therefore ended up with merely a grassy patch that came out charred and smoking. ALTHOUGH I APPRECIATE THE SENTIMENT.

january was also the month i stole chocolates hidden in dragon lairs and raised them as my own before eating them whole. because that’s a scientifically proven mechanism to cope with school and the world being busy. and the world was busy this january.

once upon a time when i was smol and still believed the lies of the world about stories being real and that there existed a universe parallel to ours where authors were granted free entry to document all its stories, i wanted to be charlie bucket.

every time i opened chocolate wrappers, i kept my fingers crossed that i’d finally get my golden ticket too and live in a factory where we survived off all things sweet and fabulous. not taking into account that the golden tickets were never announced and so i technically never ever had even the vaguest idea what chocolate brands they might be hidden in. or that there wasn’t a chocolate factory outside my window that had been secretly abandoned for so many years.

kids are smol and they don’t have to worry about such worldly details yet.

but i wasn’t even that desperate to be granted the role of charlie. i’d deem my life perfect even if i were, say, augustus gloop or violet beauregarde or veruca salt. because the poster of so many years ago that the people forgot to put up in the world i inhabit also announced that they’d all get lifelong chocolate supply no matter who the eventual heir to the chocolate factory would have been.

and that’s actually a pretty tempting offer.

(CLICK ON THE COVERS TO JUMP INTO GOODREADS. ALTHOUGH, FOR NOW, I SUGGEST YOU STAY. I’M HANDING OUT OLIVES) (DON’T WORRY NAEMI, THERE’S CHOCOLATE FOR YOU)

to all the boys i’ve loved before by jenny han ★★★★ SO THIS WAS UNCHARACTERISTICALLY FUN. it’s also deeply humiliating because i went into this merely to 1) binge-read within the course of a single night because I WASN’T READING ENOUGH LATELY which made me sad 2) help with my reading goal because QUICK READS and 3) was also convinced all the way that i’d hate this just as much as the summer i turned pretty AND THEN COME ON HERE THE NEXT DAY TO DO MY USUAL AND RANT ABOUT IT.

it’s a little globe-changing when books defy all your expectations and pre-concieved notions of them and accidentally make the biggest grump on the planet (me) who hates most books (also me) fall in love with the works of an author they’d claimed they hated.

BECAUSE RIDICULOUSNESS, AM I RIGHT.

p.s. i still love you by jenny han ★★★ P.S. I STILL LOVE THIS SERIES

always and forever, lara jean by jenny han ★★★ a little-known truth about the jenny han books because i’ve never heard anyone declare it: THEY’RE THE MOST BINGE-ABLE WORDS IN EXISTENCE. you also don’t need braincells for comprehension and such SO WOULD 100% RECOMMEND LIKE THAT. this was fun okay.

(ALSO AM OBSESSED WITH HOW MUCH ALL THE JENNY HAN CHARACTERS LOVE CHOCOLATE. I’M GLAD I DON’T HAVE TO BE THE UNIVERSE’S LONE CHOCOLATE-LOVER ANYMORE)

six crimson cranes by elizabeth lim ★★★ look i’m pretty convinced this is severely overhyped. i sometimes think back and wonder if i might have loved this more if i’d maybe gone in without the expectations to be completely mindblown. and i usually think that’d be a yes. am firmly convinced i’d have liked this even better if i’d gone in solely seeking fun instead of wanting to fall in love with all the characters and come out the other side shouting about new favorites. SHIORI’S A BADASS AND I KIND OF REALLY LOVE HER but this was more FUN than something-i’d-remember-forever.

the deal of a lifetime by fredrik backman (no rating) WELCOME TO MY NEWEST MOST RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENT IN LIFE (NO it’s not building a chocolate factory. I kind of do not have the time* AND WE’D NEED WONKA FOR THAT. SOMEONE FIND ME WONKA) hello to the time i read a 65-page book in the smol duration of a mere 45 minutes. WHICH IS FAST FOR ME OKAY.

but i also have zero semblances of an idea on how to feel about this. EXCUSE YOU.

daddy by emma cline ★★ hello to the second book of the day (OR MAYBE MONTH WE DO NOT KNOW THE WORKINGS OF TIME HERE) i have no idea how to feel about.

no, but i actually don’t.

all the stories are sort of magical although they’re also purely realistic fiction but we like to pretend. and we also float entirely on vibes here. (AND THEY HAVE MAGICAL VIBES OKAY) too many have ridiculously abrupt endings AND CAN YOU NOT GET THE FACT THAT I’M JUST RIDICULOUSLY CONFUSED HERE? THANK. YOU.

up all night by laura silverman ★★ welcome to the second time anoushka reads an anthology. THIS WAS ENTERTAINING AND THAT’S USUALLY WHAT BOOKS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE. i’m not mad as i expected to be**. look am actually smol bits of surprised at just how much i loved some of the stories. YOU, TIFFANY JACKSON, WRITE THE BEST STORIES. also zappia rules. also i have thoughts coming AND EVERYTHING’S IN BULLET POINTS so be excited, people.

* I’M TOO DUMB FOR IT, BASICALLY
** THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS FOR THIS ONE ARE INTENSE, DUDES.

i’ve finally taken to being a good little olive fiend again and therefore collecting instagram snippets of interesting stuff that happened.

which is to say, i saved all the posts that anyone said were important and was thus overall just characteristically lazy again. BUT IT ALSO MEANS I CURRENTLY HAVE STUFF TO WRITE IN THIS SECTION. and they tell you to focus on the positives, don’t they??

SO FOCUS ON THE POSITIVES, OLIVE.

  • THE WORLD GOING WILD ON JANUARY THE THIRD OVER HOLLY BLACK’S NEWEST EVER RELEASE. FEATURING OAK. i should probably get to the rest of the folk of the air series before suhani murders me in my sleep AND THE WORLD MOVES ON WITHOUT ME. (we’re working on it) [the details]
  • which is to say. I WANT TO JOIN IN THE EXCITEMENT TOO OKAY.
  • WELCOME ALSO TO THE MOST RECENT BOOK BY LEIGH BARDUGO (AKA THE BEST PERSON ALIVE) and follow up to ninth house: HELL BENT. they say there’s this one darlington i must know about. [the details]
  • lynn painter announces a follow-up to her famous ‘better than the movies’ titled: nothing like the movies. [the details]
  • look am slightly confused over how this ended up here too since 1) i haven’t yet read ANYTHING by the author and 2) i’m also perhaps not the biggest fan of romance contemporaries.
  • BUT SHHH HER COVERS ARE ALWAYS PRETTY.

one of my favorite things in life: creating plans that i know there’s no earthly possibility i can stick to, for the simple reason THAT THE IMPOSSIBLE IS FUN LIKE THAT.

plan in question for the month in current conversation: me keeping up my reputation of being a fabulous little olive who one day takes over the universe by posting on bookstagram once every 24 hours.

BECAUSE WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG.

(a lot, apparently)

i missed on the first of january.*

but shh. it’s okay. we play games of being flexible and imagine living halfway across the world in hopes of changing the time zones someday. THE SECOND OF JANUARY WAS THE FIRST DAY.

so that’s when i posted 23’s first post and debated other such ambitious goals for the new year.

i was perhaps in the middle of mind-numbing finals at the time, but i was also a determined little olive who forever dreams of bringing unimaginable amounts of price to said olive race of mine and therefore spent every spare minute writing up posts and wayward stories that accidentally found their way into the damaged little universe, thus abandoning all semblances of a life and reading for a whole week and lived off of five hours of sleep per night.

welcome to success that lasted for an exact three number of days after which i was too tired to continue on anymore and filled up my days with more studying BECAUSE THAT IS THE WAY OF THE WORLD.

currently my last post dates at 30th january promising more on its way except we all know how this wrap up is approximately somewhere nearing a month late and i’ve lied once again.

NO ONE TALK ABOUT IT.

* SEE THIS IS WHAT WE CALL RIDICULOUSLY REBELLIOUS RULE-BREAKING BE PROUD OF ME.

one of my biggest and most periodical achievements in life is never ever sticking to plans, which is kind of what this whole post is about. I LIKE TO BRAG.

in the whole thirty one days of january, i posted a grand total of two times and we’re still calling that a hard-earned success because the ancient ancient aliens still remember every single month of 2021 when i disappeared completely and without explanation and then came back with bribes of chocolate.

THIS IS PROGRESS.

happy end-of-your-reading-challenge to all those celebrating BUT I STILL HAVE FOUR BOOKS LEFT and thus am not one of the celebrating parties || wherein i accidentally forget to sleep and read for 24 hours straight. and then inflict upon you all the details of my nightly escapades. YOU’RE WELCOME.

conclusion of said experiment is such: WHAT THE HELL BOB I’M SO TIRED NEVER DO THIS AGAIN. yes, well. it didn’t live completely up to plan and was overall exhausting. 1000/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND. but shh. • (courtesy of my dear old dog-owner fiend)
  • HER NAME’S SEMBA AND SHE’S CURRENTLY MY MOST FAVORITE BEING ON EARTH.
  • only after my cats though. I STILL LOVE YOU, CATS-OUTSIDE-MY-HOME.

  • OH and then photos of stray cats i may have secretly adopted (NO ONE TELL MY MUM) because becca demanded. I PROVIDE BECAUSE THE CATS ARE CUTE OKAY. AND ALSO BECCA’S AMAZING. SHE BASICALLY HAS FULL CONTROL OVER MY LIFE DECISIONS CURRENTLY.
  • but it’s partly also because THE CATS MUSTN’T FEEL LEFT OUT, YOU.
her name’s biscotti but she isn’t particular. she responds to anything ranging from ‘kit’ and ‘cat’ and ‘here kitty kitty’ and ‘meow’ and ‘mango’ and ‘do you want milk’ and ‘here i’ll give you food’ too. SHE’S ALSO KIND OF THE PRETTIEST BEING ON EARTH.
the other one’s nijo (but we call her cat because my sister objects to my naming choices) and she sits outside our door all day, on self-assigned guard duty and we pay her in food and milk and hugs.
WELCOME TO MY CATS AND THEIR SMOL LITTLE KINGDOM. it’s very fun at night because they chase each other and accidentally pull tails sometimes. ALSO HAVE A SLIGHT MILK OBSESSION AND SHALL JUMP ON YOUR LAP IF THEY DEEM YOU A GOOD HUMAN. or olive. they aren’t fussy.
  • I LOVE THEM, MY SMOL LITTLE CAT-CHILDREN.
  • although we’ve also come to the conclusion that i’m officially incapable of clear photography EVERYONE IGNORE THAT
  • things i’ve learnt since adopting all the street cats and creating imaginary homes for them in broken-down dishwashers:
  • they can be lured right into kidnapping territory with the simple promise of food. IT’S ACTUALLY KIND OF UNNERVING, THE THINGS THEY’RE READY TO DO FOR MILK.
  • they’re also jealous creatures and take great pride in slapping each other across the face. LOOK IT’S SCARY.
  • and they also sometimes like to surprise you with gifts of broken bird feathers.
  • BUT THEY’RE CUTE OKAY. THE CUTEST EVER. and they sleep on my lap sometimes AND I LOVE THEM.

AND THAT’S IT.

WELCOME TO THE END OF YOUR DOSE OF MONTHLY TORTURE, FOLKS.

tell me about january. YOUR VERSION. do cats roam outside your home at night?? DO YOU HAVE A DOG?? BECAUSE I’M KIDNAPPING IF YOU DO. (shhh don’t freak. I’M TAKING THE DOG, NOT YOU) plans for february although it’s technically over already?? WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE NEW YEAR?? i need details, folks. I NEED DETAILS.

  1. AHHHHH THE KITTIES ARE SO CUTEEEE AND THE DOG IS CUTE TOO BUT CATS ARE THE BEST SORRY NOT SORRY

I read To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before ages ago and I might have read the rest of the series (I don’t remember) but I think I have to reread them now. They seem like they would be a cute fluffy spring read. I’m putting them on my TBR.

your posts are always so entertaining to read and TYSM FOR MENTIONING MINE <33333

    1. OH MY GOSH LIESL THIS IS BETRAYAL THE DOGS MUST RULE OKAY. HOW DARE YOU.

hjfdhjf oooh would definitely approve of that, especially if you dont remember the entire story (because i’d imagine they’d get a little boring if you knew the basics already SO) looking fotward to your thoughts AND HOPING THAT YOU LOVE THEM (also. *ahem* MY DMS ARE OPEN FOR SCREAMS AND I DEMAND THEM)

aw thats so sweet of you THANK YOU.

  2. Well, I’m sad that your book reading wasn’t the highest rated last month but maybe this month will be better!! Oh, sometimes it can be SO fun to stay over with a friend! Look at those furry friends too. <3 You might not have posted as much as you wanted but the posts you do put up are so much fun!! I hope you have an amazing March!! <3

    1. eh the problem is probably all my own than the books which have the great previledge of going onto my read shelf, BECAUSE APPARENTLY IM TOO JUDGY AND CRITICAL?? BUT THANK YOU. this month’s been a little. ALL OVER THE PLACE?? but definitely did have some fun reads SO AM PUTTING THE BLAME FOR THAT ON YOU, THANKS. aw leslie YOUR COMMENTS ARE ALWAYS THE KINDEST thank you for taking the time to read these ramblings of mine AND HOPING THAT YOU’RE HAVING THE BEST MARCH TOO SO FAR

      1. I think that these are hard months anyways! Sometimes I find that I have trouble really getting into certain books. I am glad that you have found some fun reads this month!! I think that’s all we can ask for. 🙂 Aww, thank you! That is so sweet and you are as well!! I am having a pretty good March but I am SO ready for warmer weather. haha <3

    1. HA YES i’ve heard so many tortured screams about how long leigh bardugo took to get out the next book in the alex stern series SO FINGERS CROSSED SHE DOESN’T KEEP US WAITING AGAIN. but omg WHAT DID YOU THINK OF IT?? i’ve been reading so many reviews practically EVERYWHERE that say it didn’t deliver SO AM CURIOUS ABOUT YOUR THOUGHTS 👀

  3. Aww, those pictures are adorable! 😍 Both the dog and cats!
I read the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series a few years ago, and I’d agree that the books are totally binge-able and sweet! I am rereading them now, and they’re such a fun series! The movies are pretty good, too. I also read the Summer I Turned Pretty series this past year, after loving the To All the Boys series, but that were a major disappointment.
Great wrap up post! Also, I hope you have an amazing March! 😊

    1. HA i’m still wondering what order would be more disappointing: the summer series followed by lara jean or vice versa. AM THINKING PROBABLY THE FIRST?? because then you dont have to have the misfortune of being disappointed after going in with THE HIGHEST expectations, right?? and coming out the other end surprisingly satisfied would just be an added unexpected bonus WHICH IM COMPLETELY HERE FOR. sorry you had to have the worse part of the bargain though!!!! BUT YAY ON THE REREAD I HOPE ITS THE BEST!!

  4. Doggies and kitties!!!!!!!!

My January and February have been exhausting, and I was sick multiple times. But there have been some pretty great times too. What I haven’t been doing is writing. My planned hiatus from DLTDGB is extending into a third month, and I just haven’t had the time or motivation to start writing again. I know what the next two episodes will be about, and I got a few paragraphs done of the next one, but I just can’t find the time or energy to sit down and finish it.

I did write one story that wasn’t DLTDGB, though. (I think you saw that one, right? It was about a guy who was late to a concert.) And I’ve been meaning to dig up one of my old poems that I wrote probably around 2009 and post it on here, just to have something to share. The poem I’m thinking of had one cryptic line that all of my friends who read it back then were wondering about, if I remember right. I’ll find that later tonight.

    1. OH MY GOSH WENDY YOU HAVE A DOG???!!!! I DEMAND PHOTOS????? OR LINK ME TO A POST OF YOURS WHERE YOUVE ALREADY SHARED THEM PLEASE??? ALSO BALTO’S SUCH A NICE NAME.

  5. Hopefully our bodies evolve that we get nutrients and not diabetes from eating all that chocolate. Chocolate is great. Especially high quality chocolate.☺️

  6. I wish I had a never ending pack of chocolate I could reach into and eat any time. It would solve a great deal of problems in my life I think
Ooh I’m glad you liked to all the boys I’ve loved before!! I want to read it but I’m a bit apprehensive after I read the summer I turned pretty (hahah I think u know how I feel about that book)
YOUR CATS ARE SO FRICKING CUTE I LOVE THEM💙💙💙
Hope you have a great month ahead!!

  7. totally enjoyed reading this post as always!!

first of all, I HATED the summer i turned pretty too! i actually read the to all the boys trilogy first and a few months (i guess??) later i tried the summer one and wowwwww i hated it so bad and didn’t continue it. HOWEVER the show based on the book is actually? not bad? i did find some of it annoying but it has smoothened out all of the book’s nonsense things and highlighted some good stuff and honestly was about being a teenager and growing up and feeling pretty and i quite enjoyed it! if you have a few hours to spare, i recommend bingeing it haha.

secondly, HELLO FELLOW CAT LOVER! i cannot adopt a cat because 1) um im learning to leave the house and if i get a cat i will never leave?? 2) my mom does not approve and i quite like staying with her and 3) i have eczema and am allergic to fur so it’s probably a good idea to not have a cat at home. BUT! THEY’RE SO CUTE! my best friend has two and i absolutely love visiting them (and seeing my best friend for a few minutes during the whole visit lol). the pictures you posted are so cute and i actually love the names you gave them!! also agreed, they can get kidnapped very easily. but who would kidnap them and not take care of them, you know?!

anyway! love the post and all the olivish enthusiasm! thank you for giving me a shout out 😭🧡

  8. Thank you for offering me chocolate instead of olives!! 🤗🍫 Trust me, it is very appreciated! As is the fact that you liked my post enough to share it and that you included TONS OF ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE DOG AND CAT PICTURES HERE!!! 😍😍😍 LIKE, HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME TO SEE THAT AND NOT START SCREAMING EXCITEDLY, HUH???

Also, your thoughts on the To All the Boys series are basically a clone of mine 😂 I put off reading those books for years because The Summer I Turned Pretty just was NOT it, and only read them shortly befoe the Netflix series came out because I wanted to be a book nerd in the know 🤓 I was fully expecting to find them mediocre and totally surprised by how much I ended up loving them!

I’m afraid my opinion on Hell Bent is way more unfavorable, though… I don’t want to destroy all of your excitement, but let’s just say that I may already have found my least favorite book of the year and that you can expect a rant in my next wrap-up 😅 I’M SORRY!!

  9. OMG THE DOG *SCREAMS* I am now in love with Semba. Huskies are my second fav dog breed, the first being German Shepherds since I have one xD I am so glad you ended up liking the to all the boys I’ve loved before trilogy, ngl I still remember when it was a duology and there was no plans to add a third book until several years later. Luckily I read those books before I then went and read the summer I turned pretty, still glad I didn’t start with the summer ones because I don’t know if I’d have bothered with anything else after xD The cats are also very cute too!

  10. CHOCOLATE YES

I read TATBILB a few years ago and I wasn’t *too* impressed so I never continued the series. I wasn’t into YA contemporaries at the time. But I do think there is a charm to the book.
I want to read Six Crimson Cranes so bad! I loved Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim.

    ALSO DOGGO AND CATTO!!
I have two dogs…a Chiweenie named Rocket and a Tibetan spaniel named Minxi.

  11. HOLLY BLACK RELEASED A BOOK? AND I’M KNOWING THIS AFTER LIKE 2 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!! Dude, I have to read that now!. Also your cats are sooooooooo cuteee. And also, how on earth your friends dog poses so well? My dog a by birth photo bomber 🙂 (Also, how on earth did i missed this post!)

  12. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! Well, that’s no big surprise because EVERY SINGLE POST OF YOURS MEVEE FAILS TO BE BEYOND AWESOME!!! And also YES! To all the boys was EXTREMELY bingeable it’s what made me read the summer I turned pretty and then stop on the first book BUT I did enjoy the TV show which was funnn!

BY THE WAY. FROM MY LAST RESEARCH CARTOONS HAVE ACTUALLY LIED AND I THINK CATS ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO DRINK MILK AS ITS NOT GOOD FIR THEM SO maybe check that?

Anyway byeee! And looking forward to a February wrap up 😆

  13. Oh my gosh!! You HAVE to read the folk of the air series!!! Sounds like Suhani is pushing you to live your best life!! LOL! And speaking of Leigh Bardugo news, I’m STOKED that we’re about to get season 2 of Shadow and Bone!! Hope March is treating you amazing and brings you ALL the CHOCOLATE!

  14. I believe in your ability to build a chocolate factory with or without Wonka, and even more than that I believe that you would give me all the free chocolate along with it! 🤣
Semba is extremely beautiful and knows it!! Dogs just get it! I have one called Layla, she is 14 now so she mostly sleeps but I am obsessed with her! Of course, I love the cats as well 😍😍
Ahh… I still need to read The Cruel Prince and then I can get to The Stolen Heir. I feel jealous when I hear people talking about it!!
I am up to date (well almost) on Ninth House as I am currently reading Hell Bent and yes we love Darlington!
I am sorry Six Crimson Cranes didn’t wow WOW you. I have heard amazing about it. Sometimes the hype can be killer on our expectations!
    I hope you are having a chocolate-filled March… and book-filled (obviously)! 💜

  15. sorry six crimson cranes didn’t work out for you! Sadly, I’ve been putting off reading that one because of all the hype, I just don’t want to be disappointed you know? 😫 ahh same, I’ve never read any of lynn’s books but seeing the new covers are always fun (I was able to help her reveal it on my news blog which was super exciting 🥰), what a fun wrap-up Anoushka! <3

  16. that dog is so cute!! i want one but i hear they’re hard work (lots of energy, and i’m a lazy person).

can i be mad at you for disliking my favourite book (six crimson cranes)? BUT i also can’t be mad at you because i went into it with no expectations and loved it. i’m definitely a believer that high expectations leads to disappointment and low expectations leads to a new favourite book lol

i like the inclusion of chocolate. a much more preferable treat imo.

also, how to people make plans and stick to them? asking for a friend.

ps. i’m a believer in reading shorter book in order to read those reading goals. (comics are fantastic for this 😂😂)

  17. I definitely feel like To All The Boys would be a bingeable series!
I’ve been seeing Holly Blacks new book everywhere, and I so feel like I’m missing out since I haven’t read any books by them yet! AHHHH I really need to get on that!
And OMG the DOG!!! The CATS!!! LOVE!!! 😍

  18. LOOK AT ALL THE FLOOFY PICTURES!!! You had such a great wrap up here! I need to put more effort into mine! I want to live in a world of chocolate too. Wouldn’t that be great? But like, chocolate that doesn’t melt from the sun. Magical chocolate!
